Get involved! I mean it.

I am currently a junior at Ohio State, and until this week I was not entirely aware how involved I am.

I am a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (and if you are interested in a Communications degree, I highly suggest you join PRSSA this fall), and I will be a Chairman on the Executive Board for the 2012-2013 school year.

I am also a student-employee at the Ohio Union, were I work 20-30 hours a week with the most wonderful students.  If you want to meet a good group of individuals, get a job on campus. I mean it!

I just started a small internship a couple of weeks ago at WILKS Broadcasting, a radio company in downtown Columbus. I work roughly 5 hours a week there making commercials and writing scripts.  It’s a fun internship and it doesn’t hurt to try new experiences. I never thought of going into broadcasting, ever, and here I am doing just that.  And apparently I have a good radio voice, or at least that’s what my boss says… he could be lying to make me feel better.

Until recently, that was what I was doing, on top of being a full-time student and trying to have a miniscule social life. However, this week I interviewed for an internship position with the Mayor’s department in the City of Gahanna as a Public Information Intern… and guess what? I GOT IT (Jump for joy with me!).

So, beginning middle of May and on I will be cutting my hours at the Ohio Union and busting my butt for the City of Gahanna, and I couldn’t be happier.  This internship will really benefit me and is going to be packed full of PR experience.  I am really excited to work with all of these wonderful people and I am even more excited to be the first ever Public Information Intern!

I highly recommend you get involved with a club and at least one job or internship during school, not during the summer.  I promise you, you will not value your downtime more than when you are juggling 6,000 things.

And get a planner, a planner will be your life.

Until next time…
