Meg Meets Soul-Crushing Defeat

I think I have arrived at a point of soul-crushing defeat, also known as unemployment and job hunting. It should also be noted that I am only one month in to unemployment… so clearly I am not internally cut out for resting on my laurels.

Alas, job hunting is going well I guess, in the sense that I am actively searching and applying for jobs everyday. Job hunting also sucks because I am actively searching and applying for jobs everyday, which is like opening yourself up to get immediately trampled. I have to say my favorite part of job hunting is when you get an email back confirming your application and then not more than 5 minutes later, another email saying they went in another direction.

That really just makes my day.

I have been trying to stay positive by talking to my friends and mentors and trying to get advice and leads from everyone.  I have also taken to watching motivational speeches, reading The Happiness Project and channeling all my aggression toward my fantasy football team (who hate me and score me the lowest possible points).

Anyway, it seems that September is going to be a very long month…

I’m right there with you. I’ve been at the job hunt for 3+ months, and nothing yet. But don’t stress too much! It takes some patience and it’ll all work out for us in the end. Good luck with the search!

I feel you. I’m a PR grad who just finished in June / July and have also been rejected through email in ~5 minutes, more times than I would like to admit. It opens yourself up to being vulnerable, and that’s a hard feeling to deal with. I wish you a ton of luck!
